Most Important Person in the Universe

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the YEAR! Seriously, this is my favorite time of the year for so many reasons. I love all the Christmas carols, specifically the Home Alone soundtrack, Glee Christmas, and Nat King Cole's version of the Christmas song. I obviously love Home Alone 1 & 2 not 3 because Kevin isn't in it. Miracle on 34th Street, and Elf of course! I've always loved Nativity scenes since I was a tot. I have had a mild obsession with ceramic baby Jesus' since I can't remember when. So tonight when I was looking lovingly at a lit Nativity scene, I started to really think about that baby laying in the manger.

Please for just one second think about how important that tiny baby is. That baby represents everlasting life for the entire world. That baby represents freedom from sin. That baby represents everything in the world that is pure, noble, and right. It's so easy sometimes to forget what Christmas is really about. I've heard that phrase so many times, to remember the reason for the season. I try to put myself in Mary's shoes but I can't even begin to understand the weight on her shoulders knowing that she is about to give birth/raise the Messiah. And Joseph, he has this scandalous virgin birth and also the weight of raising the Messiah. The couple probably couldn't even begin to fathom what their son would go on to do for this world. The birth of Christ as well as the crucifixion and resurrection are still so relevant today and that is the insane part to me. The Christmas we celebrate today happened forever ago, yet it's still the most celebrated holiday in our culture. I am so glad we celebrate the Messiah's birth, this year I am trying to remember that I am celebrating the birth of the most important person in the universe not just a month off of school, presents, good movies and music!

Chronicles of chi-o pt 3

So quick post about life at the 820. We are all trying oh so hard to avoid studying. We've done just about everything you can do to avoid it. We've watched Miracle on 34th Street twice, We've sat in the 3fl for hours, we've gone and gotten food, we've gone to the mall. Yesterday I thought, oh em gee I'm going to have to study. But, my sisters never fail me. I get home and Kara, Au naturale Kara, had gotten a sassy new haircut with side swept bangs. If one major change wasn't enough, we decide she needs straight across bangs, so Emily cuts them and does a fabulous job. Kara has virgin hair that has never been colored, so we go to Wal-Mart and get hair color, which leads to this amazing new do' she's rocking, and a successful afternoon of no studying!Oh, and later Emily got jealous of Kara's amazing new bangs and decided to cut herself some, so we all have bangs except for Lauren, which she will be getting tonight in her sleep! Sweet Dreams Roomie!

THEN, because Lauren and I love Christmas so much we went to a little tacky Christmas party. Rockin' our way cool oversize T's and eating tons of candy and cookies, we are well on our way to an awesome holiday season! Now it is officially studying time and writing this quick and almost pointless post was my last attempt at procrastination. I am officially done with classes my first semester of junior year! Nicaragua

Last year at this time if anyone had told me I was going to go on a mission trip period. ever. I would have probably been like you do not know me at all, I hate being away from home, and extended periods of less than excellent hygiene are not on my top ten favorites list. But, things change, and people change and now going to Nicaragua on Spring Break this year will be my second trip. Last January when I got back from Christmas break, I had this newfound sense of wanting to do all kinds of things I had never done before. So nonchalantly I said to Amanda, "We should go on a mission trip someday." This was totally hypothetical, but at the same time I wanted to, just not like right then. Well of course the Lord had a different plan and a door opened. The next day Amanda calls me and tells me that when she was working childcare at Journey she told one of her friends that we were talking about going on a mission trip. It just happened to be that the LA mission trip had two spots open and they specifically wanted girls! WOW what an opportunity and how strange (or divine) was it that right after I said I wanted to go, two spots opened? Needless to say I jumped on the bandwagon and signed up to go.

Leading up to the trip I didn't really have expectations. I didn't know anyone else going to LA except for Amanda. We were supposed to be staying at the Dream Center in LA and the way it works is that they put us to work doing whatever they need when we get there. So I really had no idea what we would be doing. In reality, the night before we left Amanda and I were slightly dreading it. We were ready for summertime at the lake, and this trip had so many question marks in it. The trip ended up being amazing. The community of people we went with was amazing, the Lord moved in so many ways, and it really opened my eyes to so many things. One of the many things I felt LA did was set my mind up for future mission trips. I usually like to go to bed early, in LA we stayed up late and got up early but God provided energy. I could only shower once a day, and I was dirty a lot, but God provided a good attitude.  I usually am a really picky eater, God provided me with an open mind. The fact that God provided so many things for us during that trip made me realize that God really can do anything, even trivial things within us. When it came time to sign up for mission trips this year I knew Nicaragua was one of my top choices because in the description of the trip it specifically said we would be "roughing it." I am so excited and can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for the team, and the people of Nicaragua!

So this past week has been full of happenings at the Chi Omega house....beginning with our wonderful philanthropy! Chi O Cravings is our fall philanthropy that is basically a dessert buffet! We all bring two desserts and sell tickets for 4-5$ and all the money goes to Make a Wish. This year was such a success! We had a live band outside playing for people to listen to while in line, and by the way the line was LONG! And our dessert options were so yummy and we had so many! We had so many people show up that some of the girls had to go buy more desserts!

Today was the day we have all been waiting for here at the 820, Slating! Slating is the process where we pick our new executive board members. The positions being voted upon in slating were President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, New Member Educator, Recruitment Chair, Panhellenic Delegate, Social Chair, and House Manager. This slating was so exciting. First thing first during our meeting at the beginning a mouse began running around the lights in the ceiling, so gross and dramatic with 200 girls. This year we had a lot of positive changes in our process and really the discussions over each position and girl nominated was so classy and sisterly, way to go Chi Omega. The tough part was when the slating committee had to actually develop a slate with our votes, comments, and nominations. We started the process at 2pm and did not get our first slate til almost 8! We have an opportunity to fail or pass the slate and luckily the majority passed the slate! Our new exec is such an amazing group of young women, and really everyone nominated was qualified. I know that these girls will represent Chi O so well and will lead our house to an amazing 2011-2012 year!

Inspiration and Motivation for All!

Thanksgiving favorites!

I have decided the fall semester of school is definitely my favorite. Football games, Fall leaves, Halloween, Weddings =], Birthdays, Thanksgiving, and the most important Christmas! I have lacked motivation this semester due to my easy peasy schedule, and now with the awesome holidays approaching I have reached a new low in the motivation department. So for anyone else who is needing a boost it's ONLY two weeks, that;s right, 14 days until Thanksgiving Break. Then it's ONLY 16 days until we all gain the Thanksgiving fifteen! And every OU student knows when we get back from Thanksgiving Break we ONLY have three weeks until the semester is over! I hope this countdown makes everyone smile because it does me!







This past weekend my bestest friend from college, Cindie, came home to see us for Kayla's 21st birthday. The proverbial 21st birthday shebang has been going on a lot around here and it's nice that everyone is finally catching up to my old age ( I turned 21 in June!) I was so glad I got to see Cindle since she went from being my roommate/confidante/soul mate to living all the way in Nebraska this school year. I guess that is what I get for introducing her to the boyfriend who then introduced her to his hometown which she fell in love with!

Speaking of  someone's love of their life I also went to a beautiful fall wedding this weekend, as well as a funeral! You would think that those two things would be a happy occasion and a very sad one. Funny enough, I cried at the wedding and laughed at the funeral! The funeral was of my 95 year old Great Grandmother and she is now living the life that Revelation 21:4 describes, "He'll wipe every tear from their eyes. Death is gone for good= tears gone, crying gone, pain gone=all the first order of things gone."  I am so happy for her, she is now reunited with her husband and one of her daughters, my Nanny Darlene. Her funeral was hilarious because everyone seemed to have an awesome story to tell about Grandma Lowrimore. She was very witty and blunt and never was afraid to set you straight, especially in regards to your faith. At her funeral, we were told of a vision she had of angels and how they told her about a very sad day coming for some, and a very happy day coming for others. This was the day the Lord was coming, and she knew her soul and heart loved the Lord so her day would be happy but that others did not have that luxury. She wanted everyone to know of that story.

The wedding I went to was so beautiful, but it wasn't all the beautiful flowers that made me tear up, it was how awesome the idea of marriage is, and how it is based on the marriage between Christ and the Church. It also made me teary watching her walk down the aisle with her Dad. It was just too cute! Anyone who knows me knows I'm a sucker for anything having to do with weddings and I am so excited people I know are starting to get married. I know Mar Mar had been dreaming about that day for so long and I'm pretty sure it was everything she could have hoped for and more!

Meg's Awesome Burn

When I started this blog about two weeks ago I said I was planning on chronicling the life of a sorority girl. I really haven't included many things that are related to Chi O. Chi O is a part of my life on a daily basis, mostly because I live there! Here's some interesting things that have happened at Chi O recently. Thursday night several of us went to a movie, and in keeping with the Halloween season we went to see Paranormal Activity 2. Lauren and I saw the first one last year so we weren't too terrified. I was literally attached to Lauren's legs the majority of the movie, I have never been more scared inside of a theater. We came home and I walked into the bathroom and our friend Megan was there. Before I even walked all the way up to her to say Hi, Lauren said, "Chelsea, wait a second." Megan had burned her hand and apparently it looked disgusting, and if you know me very well you know I love gross. Here is a pic of her awesome wound! And btw she is fine! And the mustard is supposed to help with the pain! 

Saturday was Dad's Day at the Chi Omega house and all of OU's campus so Kendall, and my Dad both came up for the game. We ate at In The Raw Sushi, and shopped around campus corner. Kendall was convinced by several sale girls to buy "jeggings," which only a select few skinny legged girls can pull off! We went to the game but only stayed til half time because our old man of a Dad was dozing off during the game. And another perk to Chi O Dad's weekend was that our freshman competed in University Sing this weekend and won FIRST PLACE! I wasn't able to get tickets to the show but have heard so many awesome things and my Grand Little was in it so I'm a super proud Grannie! Congrats!!!

Sunday was Halloween and I didn't really partake in any festivities but Lauren, Emily and I did have a nice little dinner at Victoria's and finished the evening with Hocus Pocus, which Lauren and I have already watched once this Halloween season. I am also adding some really precious pics of my baby sisters trick or treating. I wasn't there to watch them get all jazzed up, but they went as Spiderella and Sacajawea. Funny story about Gracen this weekend. I had heard about an app called TextFreePlus which is a free texting app for the Ipod Touch. She got it and started texting Kendall and I on Sunday. She hasn't really figured out texting etiquette because she politely asked us, "I want to go now, can I please?" So cute!

He is SO good!

I just had to do a quick post about how AWESOME the Lord is. This past week it's just been amazing to see the little ways that God moves in our lives. Lifestream was amazing as usual and the worship experience I've had the last few weeks has been phenomenal, just constantly becoming more intimate with the Lord and realizing more of His truths.


Yesterday I got the opportunity to meet with a fellow Chi Omega, Kristin Bernard, and it was such an amazing little meeting! We both talked about how our mission trips this past summer affected our lives and how we both have been realizing just how powerful and real spiritual warfare is. Thats something that I never really understood until I read Beth Moore's book, "When Godly People Do Ungodly Things." It's so real and powerful to acknowledge when you are feeling fear, discouragement, and negativity that those things are from the enemy and the only way to conquer them is to give them to the Lord and to pray about them intensely. I pray daily for the people in this country and all over the globe that don't know Jesus and don't have the ammunition we have in those situations. I am so thankful to have older girls in my life that can share their stories about their walk with God and encourage me in mine. Needless to say I left that meeting inspired to be the same positive influence in my friends lives.


I also had an amazing chat with my roomie about life last night and we had very good intentions of going to bed at a decent hour, that definitely did not happen! I love Lauren and how we both seem to be on the same page about so many things in our life! The only downside to our friendship is we both have a knack for putting off shopping for some really good causes such as shopping, movies, and TEA cafe. Next year in Nursing school we are definitely going to have to buckle down!
